Philosophy & Process
Marquette Associates’ consulting philosophy integrates a three-pronged
approach to investment program structuring. Our goal is to assist
clients in the efficient implementation of their investment policy. In
doing so, we focus on controlling the major factors which contribute
to a successful program - Risk, Quality of Investment Managers, and
Cost.
Risk Control:
Marquette Associates believes that one of the main ingredients to a
successful investment plan is a disciplined risk control strategy. In
conjunction with the client, Marquette will develop an asset
allocation plan and re-balancing process that is consistent with the
client’s risk tolerance. Marquette also seeks to reduce the risks
associated with the investment program through diligent oversight and
compliance reporting each quarter. This process is coordinated and
communicated through the firm’s Due Diligence Committee.
Quality Control:
Marquette Associates is committed to providing its clients with the
highest level of investment advice. In order to assure that all
services are delivered in a manner that is responsive and conducive to
the needs of our clients, Marquette has developed an internal
consultant’s handbook. This handbook outlines the goals and
responsibilities of the consultant as well as strict procedures
encompassing all aspects of the investment consulting relationship.
Apart from the handbook, Marquette Associates has established several
other assurances that are set to oversee quality and focus on
continuous improvement:
• Maximum Client/Consultant Ratio of 15
• Investment Professional Stability
• Independent Review of Investment Managers
• Investment Policy Guideline Compliance Procedures
• Due Diligence Committee Oversight
The firm’s Due Diligence Committee is
coordinated by the Risk Compliance Office. The primary role of the De
Diligence Committee is to review the risk policies and procedures for
clients, as well as general oversight for the investment manager
research staff.
Cost Control:
Controlling costs is an area that is often overlooked. Marquette
Associates realizes that every dollar saved through cost controls can
be reinvested in the client’s portfolio. Marquette uses its
well-placed position in the industry to negotiate the fees charged by
investment managers, custodians, and other service providers. Marquette also monitors
commissions and can assist clients who seek added cost savings through
independent commission recapture and securities lending programs.
Our Firm focuses on:
• Exploring Economies of Scale
• Controlling Custodian Expenses
• Monitoring Commissions Costs
• Negotiating Investment Program Fees
