Dave Smith is a partner at Marquette Associates and serves on the firm’s executive committee. An owner of the firm, Dave has been with the company since 2009 and has 29 years of investment experience. He leads the healthcare practice area at Marquette and is a member of the nonprofit services group. Dave serves as the lead investment consultant to a wide range of institutional clients, including large healthcare systems, nonprofit organizations, and government funds. Dave has played a key role in developing strategic investment programs and delivering fiduciary guidance tailored to complex institutional portfolios. He has experience and expertise in asset allocation, investment manager diligence, risk management, portfolio construction, and long-term investment strategy.

Prior to joining Marquette, Dave was a vice president of investor relations at Northern Trust Asset Management, spending time in Chicago and Singapore, where he was responsible for servicing large institutional investors. He began his career at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange with a Eurodollar derivatives trading firm.

Dave holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Richmond and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He is a CFA^® charterholder and previously served on the board of directors of the CFA Society of Chicago from 2018 to 2021. Dave was a co-chair of the Alumni Finance Roundtable at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business from 2013 to 2020 and served on the Goodman Theatre Scene Makers Board from 2013 to 2020. Dave has been a member of the Economic Club of Chicago since 2018 and joined the Northwest Community Hospital Foundation Board of Endeavor Health in 2026.
