Dave Smith Speaking at NAST 2023 Treasury Management Training Symposium 6/14

On Wednesday, June 14, Dave. Smith, CFA will be speaking at the National Association of State Treasurers’ 2023 Treasury Management Training Symposium (TMTS) in Portland, Oregon.

Dave will be speaking on a panel entitled, “Cover Your Assets – Educate and Engage Your Board.” The session will explore the various oversight roles boards can, do, and even should play in 529 plans by addressing fiduciary duties of the board and how to fulfill those duties, board engagement in plan activities, and questions boards can ask to ensure they are providing adequate oversight.

Marquette’s research team will then take the stage, featuring an In Context Conversation covering 2022 and beyond and three flash talks discussing timely investment topics. Rounding out the day, Ted Seides will join Nat Kellogg, Marquette’s President and Director of Manager Search, for a conversation spanning Ted’s experience, expertise, and insights from nearly three decades in the industry as our main presentation.

Patrick Wing Speaking at PSACC Fall Conference 11/18

On Friday, November 18th, Patrick Wing, CFA, CIPM will be speaking at the Pennsylvania State Association of County Controllers’ (PSACC) 2022 Fall Conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Patrick will be presenting, “2022 PA County Database & Key Considerations of Active vs Passive Management” for conference attendees. The PSACC fall conference gives controllers, deputies, and their solicitors the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions and receive training on various topics related to the responsibilities of the controller’s office and county government. On Friday, October 28th, Lauren Cellucci, CIMA® and Nic Solecki will be speaking at the Maryland Government Finance Officers Association Fall Conference in Linthicum, Maryland.

Lauren and Nic will be presenting an educational session entitled, “Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Update” for conference attendees. Cryptocurrencies continue to generate numerous headlines and much debate. Many governments have continued to maintain a wait-and-see approach to crypto-investment, but some have jumped in headfirst. This session will examine the current market, touch on the risks local government finance officials need to be aware of, and examine the future of cryptocurrency.

The Maryland GFOA is a nonprofit professional association of State, local, and private financial management professionals and is the local chapter of its international affiliate, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. Greg Leonberger, FSA, EA, MAAA and Nic Solecki will be speaking at the 68th Annual International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans Conference, held as a hybrid event in Las Vegas and virtually.

Greg and Nic will be co-presenting an educational session on cryptocurrency and digital assets at the conference: “Cryptocurrency—Part I: What Is Cryptocurrency?” The session will cover the basics of cryptocurrencies, from various types of digital assets to blockchain technology to the risks posed by investing in digital assets.

On Monday, October 17th, Evan Frazier, CFA, CAIA and Frank Valle, CFA, CAIA will be speaking at the 2022 Pension Seminar hosted by the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI) in Springfield, Illinois.

Evan and Frank will be providing a Market Outlook for attendees, looking ahead to what 2023 may hold for investors. This year’s conference will be a hybrid event and will bring together members of the AFFI, presenters, sponsors, and AFFI staff for education and networking. On Tuesday, September 20th, Kweku Obed, CFA, CAIA will be teaching a continuing education session at the Georgia Association of Public Pension Trustees (GAPPT) Eighth Annual Trustee School in Athens, Georgia.

The session, Intro to Sustainable Investing, will provide an overview of sustainable investing, trends in the industry, and approaches to implementation and portfolio construction. The GAPPT Trustee School is an annual educational opportunity offered to public retirement system trustees, plan staff members, and professional service providers of Georgia’s public retirement plans.
